Summer-like warmth provides chance to get outside

This weekend's summer-like temperatures could provide a good opportunity to shake off the cabin fever by grilling or gardening in the backyard or doing some home-schooling lessons outside.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Triangle woke up Saturday morning to summer-like temperatures and a dew point in the 60s, creating a warm and humid start to the day.

Temperatures even reached 90 degrees in Fayetteville as it felt more like summer than spring.

"It was hot for many of us," meteorologist Zach Maloch said. "89 was what it hit in Raleigh today and it hit 90 in Fayetteville this afternoon, breaking the record of 87 degrees previously set in 1945.

"The heat was on today, and the heat will be with us again for (Sunday)."

Tracking a big warm up

The summer-like temperatures could provide a good opportunity to shake off the cabin fever by grilling or gardening in the backyard or doing some home-schooling lessons outside. However, pollen levels look pretty high, so be cautious if you have allergies.

"If you're a fan of all things hot, go ahead and soak in the warm temperatures this weekend," meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said earlier Saturday.

Sunday is also warm, reaching 88 degrees.

However, cooler air returns Monday as a front enters the area later on Sunday. Temperatures will still be in the mid 70s before they drop again Tuesday and Wednesday.
