RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh woman was arrested and charged with harboring an escapee Tuesday at the same time that the Wake County Sheriff's Department called off a manhunt for 24-year-old Raequan Mudd.

The Raleigh Police Department was called to investigate a report of a suicide at the woman's house on Coolridge Court in northeast Raleigh around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Within hours, the five-day manhunt for Mudd was called off.

Officials did not say how or whether the two were connected, but neighbors told WRAL News that police told them the person who committed suicide was Mudd.

Kimberly Turcic, 28, was charged with felony harboring an escapee, firing into an occupied dwelling and eluding police, among other charges.

No other details were provided about the suicide at Turcic's home, and the Wake County Sheriff's Office did not provide any additional details on why the search for Mudd was called off.

Mudd went on a crime spree last Thursday, including starting a fire inside a home he was renting in order to get back at a girlfriend who broke up with him, according Wake Sheriff Gerald Baker, who said Mudd was also upset because he was served an eviction notice that same day.

After setting fire to the home, he fired shots into his girlfriend's parents' house on Silver Star Drive. Mudd is facing charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and arson, authorities said.

On Friday morning, officers found Mudd and tried to pull him over. He sped off and crashed his SUV at the intersection of Honeycutt and Durant roads and then fled on foot, authorities said. The SUV burst into flames after the crash.

Officials continued to look for Mudd over the weekend and followed tips of possible sightings. Sometime over the weekend, a resident of the Bent Tree neighborhood provided police with Ring doorbell footage that appeared to show Mudd without shoes on.

The sheriff's office used drones, helicopters and K-9s but was still not able to find Mudd. When questioned about why the sheriff's office has not been able to find Mudd, officials said he has been "moving around" the area too much.

Raequan Mudd, 24, faces charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and arson, authorities said. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities said that no one was injured during Mudd's crime spree.
