CLAYTON, N.C. — A failure at a Duke Energy substation knocked out power on Saturday to thousands of customers near Clayton.

Tammie McGee, a spokeswoman for the utility, said the outage will last through most of the day while repairs are made. The company brought in a mobile substation to restore power quickly.

"We are acutely aware of the temperatures we've been having, and we're going to work as quickly as possible to solve the problem, McGee said.

The Duke Energy power outage map showed almost 2,000 customers were without power around 2 p.m.

McGee told WRAL News that power was restored to all customers around 4:30 p.m.
