RALEIGH, N.C. — Students at NC State received notification of a reported sex crime at an off-campus property Tuesday night.

The alert comes just days after a reported rape at Bragaw Residence Hall. So far, no arrests have been made in either case.

Since early December, WRAL News has covered at least five reported sexual assault cases both on and off main campus.

Students at NC State are growing concerned as the number of alert they receive on their phones continues to grow.

"It definitely makes it feel a little unsafe," said Sarah Sisk, an NC State student. "I like to know what's going on on campus, especially something that could affect me in a negative way or affect my friends in a [negative] way."

The mother of a UNC student who was sexually assaulted said the number of assaults is probably higher than the five reported.

"These are just the students that have reported it," said the mother, who wished to remain anonymous. "We don't know that the actual numbers are actually worse."

WRAL News first spoke to the mother when her son was sexually assaulted at his residence hall after being followed by an unknown attacker in October 2022.

The mother had some ideas on how to stop the attacks from occurring.

"There needs to be more visibility," she said. "I don't know if NC State has cameras. That is something we've been pushing for at UNC Chapel Hill as a majority of residence halls don't have cameras."

Sisk shared the same thought.

"Maybe having more officers on campus," Sisk said. "Just having more of a secure system of getting into dorms where it's happening."

Officials at NC State told WRAL News they are beefing up patrols. The victim and assailant in the most recent case appear to have known each other.
