HENDERSON, N.C. — Police charged six juveniles with setting fire to Henderson Middle School early Friday.

Chief K.L. Sidwell said in a news release that firefighters were called out to the school, at 219 Charles St., after people spotted smoke around 9:15 a.m. Firefighters located numerous points of origin for the fire and extinguished them.

The fire had been set in an unused portion of the school, he said.

Sidwell said that arson investigators determined that a group of students had set fire to the school. Six juveniles were taken into custody by Juvenile Services and placed at a secure juvenile facility, pending a hearing. Their names weren't released.

Sidwell said that more juveniles might be charged in connection with the fire.
