DURHAM, N.C. — A student at Research Triangle High School faces criminal charges after he was linked to a series of threats against the school.

Samuel Scipione, 18, of Raleigh admitted making the threats, but authorities do not believe he intended to carry them out. They did not say exactly what Scipione threatened or how the threats were communicated.

“Making a threat against a school is serious business,” said Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead. “We investigate every threat vigorously. Thankfully in this particular instance no harm came of anyone at this school."

Birkhead also asked parents to warn their children of the dangers and the consequences that come with making threats towards schools.

Scipione was charged with three counts of communicating threats of mass violence on an educational property. He posted $10,000 bond and was released to his parents.

Investigators did not say how they linked Scipione to the threats.
