Stuck indoors? Some activities

Photo by: Kimberly Lindner. I woke up early to find snow falling, so the first thing I did was make myself some hot chocolate

In my book, this is the worst possible kind of day off of school. No snow to play in. Just stuck in the house.

I've managed to get some stuff done. Two loads of laundry. The dishwasher is running. A playdate scheduled. And the house picked up. Of course, I've been up since 5 a.m. thanks to my one-year-old. Good times!

Here are some other ideas, if you're looking:

Martin Luther King Day is Monday. And while we'll be featuring a fun craft to do later this week, click here for some more activities including crafts and quizzes. And while you're at it, browse the volunteer opportunities that are part of the United Way of the Greater Triangle's MLK Day of Service next Monday. Families are encouraged to volunteer as part of this community event.

Get a head start on those homemade Valentine's cards for Grammy and Pa. I know ... it's more than a month away at this point. But you have the time. And probably the supplies. Make your own. Or check Family Fun for some ideas.

I don't know about you, but we've got a few candy canes left over. So we may just try this recipe for homemade peppermint hot chocolate. I suspect my five-year-old will have a blast crushing them up.

Homework and probably a little walk around the neighborhood this afternoon are on the schedule too. What's going on at your house?
