Stroller Strides, the workout for moms and their stroller-riding kids, has taken off in Wake County in the last year. And a couple of months ago, a new location opened in Chapel Hill.

Owner Vanessa Moore, a mom of two young boys, leads the workouts at Southern Village on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. She's offering free classes the week of July 11. They'll meet from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. July 11, July 13 and July 15 at the Village Green in Southern Village, across the street from the Lumina Theater. If you plan to go, bring water and a mat or towel for ab work and stretching at the end of the class.

She's also launching a 10-week, 5K training program that starts Sept. 3. It will meet twice a week on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. The class will train for the Southern Village 5K on Nov. 13. The training is designed for people with strollers and without. It's appropriate for novice runners and those with experience. Moore is partnering with Fleet Feet Sports in Carrboro. Participants will learn about running form, injury prevention, increasing speed and distance and other topics. The cost for the program will be $150 for non-Stroller Strides members and $120 for members.
