If you’re voting in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary, your ballot isn’t wrong: Mark H. Robinson is running for lieutenant governor as a Democrat.

The Sampson County Democrat just happens to have the same first and last name of Republican Mark K. Robinson, who currently has the job.

The Republican Robinson is running for governor. His name only appears on Republican primary ballots.

The coincidence has confused some voters as they cast ballots across the state.

Mark H. Robinson, a Navy veteran with a business degree from Duke University, is a long shot in the lieutenant governor’s race. Sen. Rachel Hunt, former Gov. Jim Hunt’s daughter, is also in this primary, as is former state Sen. Ben Clark, of Cumberland County.

The current lieutenant governor, Mark K. Robinson, is the front-runner in the GOP primary race for governor against State Treasurer Dale Folwell. The Republican Robinson is a political ally of former President Donald Trump, who endorsed the lieutenant governor on Saturday.
