The Raleigh playground, opened in the mid-2000s, got a new playground in June 2017 thanks to a community effort. The playground serves as an extension of Poe's health-centered programs.

If you're looking for a reason to check out the Poe Center for Health Education's awesome PlayWELL Park, here you go ...

The Poe Center, 224 Sunnybrook Ave., will host a free festival from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21.

Usually only open to field trips and educational groups, the event will let the general public take in Poe's one-of-a-kind health-themed theaters and interactive exhibits. Families also will be able to play on the center's body-system themed playground, PlayWELL Park, which, among many other things, has a tongue slide. (The playground is open to the public during business hours). Poe also has a new garden-inspired outdoor art and garden theater.

The day also includes activities from Playworks North Carolina and performances from the N.C. State Ballroom Dance Team, Rebound Jump Team and more. The event is designed to promote healthy choices for healthy communities.

Poe's website has more information about the event.
