Authorities closed northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 15-501 in northern Chatham County Tuesday morning just after 6 a.m. when one tractor-trailer rear-ended another in heavy fog near Vickers Road.
State Highway Patrol officials said the the first truck, hauling a load of wood chips, was stopped at a red light. The second truck failed to stop in time and hit the first truck, spilling its load.
A pickup then ran into the back of the second truck.
None of the drivers had life-threatening injuries as a result of the wreck, troopers said.
The cleanup took most of the day, but all lanes of 15-501 were open in time for the evening rush hour.
No charges are expected.
