Wreck in Fortify work zone creates major delays on I-40

A two-car wreck in the Fortify work zone southeast of downtown Raleigh created big delays on Interstate 40 West Tuesday morning. 

The wreck happened at about 7:15 a.m. where I-40 West merges with Interstate 440 West, near Sunnybrook Road. 

The cause of the wreck has not been released, but major delays were reported on I-40 West past U.S. Highway 70. 

The shoulder of I-440 West was blocked for more than an hour following the wreck. The shoulder was reopened at about 8:30 a.m.
