WRAL's Gaddy, 12 others named to Raleigh Hall of Fame
Charlie Gaddy, a stalwart on the WRAL-TV anchor desk for a generation, was honored Monday as a member of the 2012 class of the Raleigh Hall of Fame.
Charles Reece Gaddy joined WRAL-TV in 1970 as host of a morning program. He moved to the news anchor desk in 1974. He retired from WRAL in 1994 after 24 years.
He is being honored both for his long tenure at WRAL and his community service, especially his work with children through groups like United Cerebral Palsy and Children’s Miracle Network.
"It's wonderful, and whether it is deserved or not is questionable," Gaddy said.
The Raleigh Hall of Fame inductions were presented at a banquet dinner Monday at the Raleigh Convention Center to "people who have made a wonderful and long-lasting contribution to this community," said Randy Fraser, chairman of the board for the Raleigh Hall of Fame.
Besides Gaddy, 12 other individuals and organizations were inducted:

- Ralph Edwards Capps,
- Mary Cates,
- Assad Meymandi,
- Robert Hodges Bilbro,
- Carol Williams Bilbro,
- Vernon Malone,
- Robert L. McMillan Jr.,
- Sylvia Ruby,
- Henry Jerome Brown,
- The Kiwanis Club of Raleigh and
- Raleigh Host Lions Club.
"The people who are also getting awards tonight are so important to this community," Gaddy said. "I must say I am honored to be with them and a part of them."
Former Mayor Charles Meeker said the mark of a great city is great people.
"You can have all the buildings you want, but the city is really made up of people and the character of those people," he said. "These are great characters."
