DURHAM, N.C., Sept. 15, 2013 – Beginning early Sunday morning, thousands streamed through the gates of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park to fill the seats and the field for a Triangle-wide church service. At the conclusion of the 90-minute service, 530 were baptized. Gathering at a baseball stadium – or any comparable venue – is a public witness to our city that God is at work.

The service was put on by The Summit Church, a seven-campus evangelical church with locations across the Triangle. More than 6,000 additional seats were brought in to accommodate the larger crowd.

The aim was not only a unified service but to impact the community by hosting Habitat for Humanity, Urban Ministries of Durham, and the Salvation Army Women’s and Children’s Shelter. A total of $75,000 was presented to the organizations at the beginning of the service. In addition, attendees brought in household and food items for Urban Ministries and the Salvation Army who provide material items and hope to the homeless in the community.

The Summit Church desires to serve and bless Raleigh-Durham. It meets in locations in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill including a Spanish campus in the Brier Creek community. If you are interested, you can find out more information about the Summit at SummitRDU.com.
