Woman wanted for trying to cash forged check from local church
Authorities in Cumberland County are asking for the public's help to identify a woman caught on surveillance video trying to cash a forged check that was stolen from a local church.
The sheriff's office said Monday that she allegedly broke into WHI Sand & Gravel in Fayetteville in June and stole a checkbook from the drawer of an employee that belonged to a church where he is a superintendent.
She then went to a Wells Fargo bank branch on Raeford Road and tried to cash a check for $2,300, investigators said.
Authorities said the woman also stole engine oil, a pressure washer and hydraulic fluid from WHI Sand & Gravel.
The woman in the surveillance video is black with a medium complexion and wears her hair in a ponytail, investigators said.
Anyone with any information that could help detectives identify the woman is asked to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at 910-323-1500.
