Police around 8 p.m. responded to a report of shots being fired in the Windwaters neighborhood in the 600 block of Twain Town Drive.

Neighbors told WRAL News they heard at least 10 gunshots although they were blocks away. Numerous bullet holes were visible in the front of the home, and WRAL News crews at the scene found more than 60 shell casings outside.

Knightdale's Police Chief Lawrence Capps said police officers found the woman dead on the front porch.

Emergency medical services tried to save her life, but they were unsuccessful.

Earth's husband said he doesn't believe his wife was the target.

Police taped off the area for hours while investigating the scene.
