Woman killed in downtown Raleigh crash

A woman was killed Thursday night in a crash in downtown Raleigh. Two others were injured.

According to the Raleigh Watch Commander, a 41-year-old woman was killed in the crash, which occurred before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Blount Street and East Cabarrus Street.

A sedan and a pickup truck were both involved. WRAL News crews at the scene saw the white truck flipped over on its roof.

All three people involved in the crash were transported to the hospital. Of the two people injured, one was in serious condition and the other was stable.

The woman who died was not identified by police.

Authorities charged William David Barber, 65, with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one county of felony larceny of motor vehicle.

According to his arrest warrant, Barber was driving a stolen Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck down South Blount Street when he crashed into another vehicle at 87 mph. The accident is under investigation, but police said they expect to file charges.

Barber died on Sunday after suffering a medical emergency at the Wake County Detention Center.

Authorities closed Blount Street between Davie Street and Lenoir Street for several hours following the crash.

Two power poles were also damaged, and officials said one pole was snapped in half. Duke Energy trucks were on scene cleaning up more than six hours after the crash.
