Woman killed in 3-car crash on US 1 in Cary

A woman died Saturday morning in a wrong way crash on U.S. Highway 1 in Cary.

Around 3:30 a.m., Cary police officers responded to the 3-car crash in the southbound lanes on U.S. 1 at U.S. Highway 64.

Charity Ragland, 49, of Henderson, died on the scene.

Investigators believe a wrong-way driver caused the crash by mistakenly traveling north in the southbound lanes. Alcohol is also believed to be a factor, police said.

The two other people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. One driver remained hospitalized Monday in stable but critical condition. Another driver was treated for minor injuries and released.

Police are awaiting the results of a toxicology report to determine if drinking caused the crash.
