A woman and three children were shot Monday in Spring Lake.

Officers around 7:45 p.m. responded to a shooting at a home near S. Sixth Street and N.C. Highway 210.

At the scene, they found four people who were all shot inside a car.

All four victims were taken to the hospital. The woman, Angela Gwyn, died from her injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Gwyn was 42 years old and lived in Cameron.

The names and ages of the children were not released, but their injuries were non-life-threatening.

Police said Gwyn is a relative of the three children who were in the car with her.

Neighbors told WRAL News a small, dark-colored car was parked in the driveway and that no one is living there as the home is being renovated.

This incident does not appear to be random and there was no threat to the community, police said.

Spring Lake's mayor posted a letter this afternoon to Facebook, addressing the incident and asking the community to come together to make it safe for everyone and bring the suspects to justice.

An investigation is underway.
