Woman rams vehicle into house, highway patrol car

A woman in Raleigh is facing several charges after hitting a State Highway Patrol trooper's car and a home multiple times with her vehicle.

The chain of events played out Thursday just off Jones Sausage Road and Tharrington Road. Officials with the Wake County Sheriff's Office said the incident started as a domestic dispute. A Highway Patrol trooper was called in to assist, and when he arrived, he saw the woman hitting the home and the deck in back multiple times with a vehicle, authorities said.

The trooper tried to stop the woman before she crashed into the trooper's car, authorities said. She then crashed into a nearby ditch. Officials said it took several minutes to remove her because she was armed and threatened to harm herself.

The woman was taken to WakeMed. Thursday night, Wake County sheriff's deputies said Patricia Erwin, 57, was facing several charges, including assault on a law enforcement officer.

Officials said the trooper is OK, but his vehicle was badly damaged.

Erwin was due in court Friday.
