A woman died in a crash between a pickup truck and an ambulance in Cumberland County on Tuesday night.

It happened just before 11 p.m. in the Gray's Creek community along Butler Nursery Road.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker was on the scene as crews worked to clean up after the crash. The ambulance was affiliated with Cape Fear Valley Health and had emergency lights on at the time of the crash.

The state highway patrol said the ambulance driver slowed to make a left turn into a private residence when the driver of a black Dodge Dakota truck tried to pass the ambulance, causing a collision. The truck then went off the road and hit a tree.

The driver of the truck, Kristi Boyer, died at the hospital from her injuries. Boyer was 42 years old.

A Cape Fear Valley Health spokesperson said there were no patients on the ambulance at the time and no serious injuries sustained by the two EMS staff members on the ambulance.

Two others riding in the truck had non-life-threatening injuries.
