Woman critically burned, 2 injured in townhouse fire in Raleigh

A townhouse fire left three people injured – including a woman with critical burns and a victim that jumped from a balcony – in Raleigh early Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 3:21 a.m. and spent hours battling a two-alarm fire that impacted multiple townhouses.

Three people were taken to WakeMed, including one woman in critical condition from burn injuries and another victim who jumped from the balcony trying to escape the flames.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker was there just after 3 a.m., where smoke could be seen pouring from the charred rooftop of a home on Hourglass Court, near the Pleasant Valley area of Glenwood Avenue.

Video from the scene shows heavy damage to at least one unit, possibly multiple, with charred black siding, part of the roof burned away and several windows and balconies with burn damage.

Raleigh Fire Chief Herbert Griffin said around 60 personnel responded. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

WRAL News received reports that the fire threatened multiple townhouse units, and vehicles may have also caught fire.
