Woman Convicted in Fayetteville Drug Ring

A Louisburg woman received a six-year prison sentence Thursday for her role in a drug ring that planned to distribute marijuana and cocaine worth millions of dollars in the Fayetteville area.

Margaret Hamilton, 45, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 100 kilos of marijuana. U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced Hamilton to six years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release.

Hamilton was the ninth person to be sentenced for their part in a drug ring exposed by Operation Second Wind, conducted by federal, state and local law-enforcement agents.

Prosecutors said the ring had brought millions of dollars worth of cocaine and marijuana into Fayetteville and planned to distribute the drugs.
