A Raleigh woman was charged Monday with lying to police after a car smashed through the front of a local laundromat Sunday night.

The crash at 1601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. occurred before 11 p.m. Raleigh police originally said they were investigating the incident as a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with minor injuries, but they later said that no one was injured and that the crash was no longer considered a hit-and-run.

Police said a family member was inside the laundromat when another family member backed their car into the building.

Sabrina Annette Battle, 49, of 1545 Sunbow Falls Lane, was charged with filing a false police report in the case. She told invesigators that her nephew was driving the car when her 13-year-old son was behind the wheel, according to an arrest warrant.

She was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

Despite the shattered glass and crumpled metal, people continued to do their laundry after the crash.
