Woman charged in Cumberland trucker assault

A woman wanted in connection with an assault last month that left a long-haul trucker with severe head injuries was arrested Tuesday, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies sought the public’s help Monday in finding Lutina Oxendine, 38, whose last known address was Lumber Bridge. The woman, who is known to frequent truck stops, was wanted for questioning in the May 2 assault of Wael Wael near Wade.

Wael, of Jacksonville, Fla., was found lying in the median of Goldsboro Road and was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized with severe head trauma.

Oxendine was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with an armed weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury. She was held under a $100,000 secured bond.

Oxendine is scheduled for a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately release more information about the case.
