Woman arrested for DWI after rear ending off-duty Wake County deputy

A Wake County Sheriff’s deputy working off duty was sitting in his patrol car when it was rear-ended Wednesday morning.

Raleigh police responded to the crash around 12:54 a.m. An off-duty Wake County deputy was parked in a construction zone with emergency lights on when a car rear-ended the deputy’s car.

The woman driving the car who hit the deputy is in custody.

No injuries have been reported. The deputy was transported to the hospital as a precaution.

The Raleigh Police Department arrested and charged 32-year-old Elizabeth Dawn Barnwel Myers with driving while impaired.

“While we are thankful no one was seriously hurt in this incident, this is a reminder to drivers to always move over to another lane away from any emergency vehicle on a multi-lane highway,” said Sheriff Willie Rowe.
