'Winter has arrived': Raleigh, Durham wake up to temps in the mid-40s
After a Halloween night with strong storms, people in the Triangle are waking up to temperatures about 25 degrees colder than Thursday morning.
As a cold front pushed the storm system off the North Carolina shore, temperatures in central North Carolina were in the mid-40s. Areas near the Virginia border had temperatures in the upper 30s.
“You can tell that winter has arrived, finally,” WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. “Yesterday, 85 degrees, we tied a record.”
Thursday’s storms caused a tree to split in half and fall on a home in Durham, and multiple trees had fallen in Moore and Roxboro counties.
But Friday will be clear and calm thanks to a high-pressure system to our northwest, which is funneling cold air from the north.
It was blustery outside, with winds at 12 mph in Raleigh and Durham.
Temperatures will warm up to a high of 58 degrees on Friday.
The normal low for the Triangle this time of year is 45 degrees, but the low will drop to 36 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. A freeze warning and a frost advisory have been issued for parts of the state on Saturday morning.
Highs will reach 62 degrees on Saturday but only 56 degrees on Sunday.
Skies will be mostly clear throughout the weekend.
