Walter Williams High School's quarterback Dan Mahan is no longer set to attend Appalachian State University. The Burlington, NC passer announced on Monday night that he has de-committed from the university. Mahan originally pledged to the Mountaineers in November.

"I would like to thank Coach Clark, coach Ponce, and the whole staff at Appalachian State for everything. I couldn't thank everyone involved with Appalachian State football enough," Mahan's social media post said. "With that being said after much thought and consideration I will be de-committing from Appalachian State."

Mahan made the de-committment announcement at 8:16 on Monday. 12 minutes later, Mahan announced an offer from Wake Forest University.

The class of 2025 prospect stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 180 pounds. He has also been offered by Arkansas State, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, Boston College, Miami (OH), James Madison, and Duke over the course of his recruitment. His offer from Duke came on Feb. 1, well after his App State pledge.

Mahan helped Williams to a 9-3 overall record in the 2023 season. He completed 140-of-238 passing attempts (58.8%) for 1,776 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 323 yards and seven touchdowns on 55 attempts.
