Five days after de-committing from Appalachian State University, Williams High School rising senior quarterback Dan Mahan announced his decision to attend Duke University.

Mahan made the announcement on his X account on Saturday. Mahan originally pledged to the Mountaineers in November.

He is the first in-state commitment for Duke for the class of 2025.

The rising senior stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 180 pounds. He also received offers from universities like Arkansas State, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, Boston College, Miami (OH), James Madison, and Wake Forest during his recruitment. His offer from Duke came on Feb. 1, a few months after he committed to Appalachian State.

Mahan is considered a 3-star prospect by On3, 247Sports, and Rivals. He is ranked as high as the No. 24 class of 2025 prospect in North Carolina.

Last fall, Mahan helped Williams to a 9-3 overall record. The athletic quarterback completed 140-of-238 passing attempts (58.8%) for 1,776 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 323 yards and seven touchdowns on 55 attempts.

He is one of the top quarterbacks returning in the 3A classification.
