Several school districts are starting school before the start date set in place by North Carolina law. Schools can start no earlier than the Monday closest to Aug. 26 and an end date no later than the Friday closest to June 11.

The eight school districts starting earlier than the state statute allows:

  • Cabarrus County Schools
  • Cleveland County Schools
  • Gaston County Schools
  • Iredell-Statesville Schools
  • Kannapolis City Schools
  • Lincoln County Schools
  • Rutherford County Schools
  • Stanly County Schools

The State Board of Education and Department of Public Instruction are limited in what they can do if a district does not comply with state laws.
