Widespread, relatively light rainfall covered the northern half of the state Saturday evening.

Many parts of the Triangle saw rain on Saturday evening, and for the most part it was a welcome relief from recent hot, dry conditions.

The showers forced a delay in a college baseball game in Chapel Hill and spurred flash flooding in Guilford County. About four inches of rain fell in in hour in Greensboro, trapping people in their cars.

Saturday dawned damp and hot for the annual Raleigh Race of the Cure. Temperatures had only dipped to the low 70s overnight, and the humidity was above 80 percent.

Sunday should be a repeat of the pattern: a humid morning with a chance of thunderstorms as the day progresses.

Sunday's storms will signal a change. They are leading a cool front that will result is lower humidity and temperatures nearer to the normal highs for this time of year in the mid-80s. Beginning Monday, the nights should be cooler and the days mostly sunny and dry.
