The typical home value in the United States was $349,216 in February, 4.2% higher than the year before.
The median sales price for a parcel of Wake County real estate, by comparison, was $459,000 in March, up $27,000 from the February price of $432,000.
Meanwhile, a recent study showed Raleigh is in the top 25 of 100 cities with the highest income needed to live "comfortably," with a single adult needing an average salary of $102,752 a year. That estimate os more than double what the average resident of Raleigh makes. According to Wake County census data, the median income of someone living in Raleigh is $47,003 for single women, and $50,955 for single men.
Despite this, you may be surprised to learn that Raleigh, and even Wake County, do not have the highest cost homes in North Carolina.
