$1400 stimulus check could change lives in the Triangle

Have you checked your bank account?

Some North Carolinians have already received their third stimulus check, worth up to $1400, over the weekend. Previous stimulus checks distributed over the last year were up to $1,200 and $600.

So what will they do with it? WRAL posed the question to viewers on Facebook and got a variety of answers, from donating it to charity to saving for a house to using it for a vacation.

The payments are part of the American Rescue Plan that will provide economic help to many Americans along with unemployment insurance and health insurance assistance.

John Turner, who lives at the Durham Rescue Mission, is anxiously awaiting for his $1400 to arrive to support his livelihood. Turner said he lost his driver's license and started living at the mission a year-and-a-half ago.

"A portion of it is going towards my license," Turner said. "And then the other portion is going towards my education."

John said 10 percent is going toward the rescue mission.

"It is, in the long term, going to support my livelihood."

It’s estimated about 85 percent of Americans are set to receive these stimulus checks.

IRS has established a ‘Get my Payment’ Tool to track when your payment arrives IF you qualify
