Wegmans announced Thursday that it would be opening another store in the Triangle.

The grocery store chain said it has confirmed plans to build a store on the Route 98 bypass, just east of Capital Boulevard, in Wake Forest.

"We look forward to the day when we can greet new customers and welcome back those who have shopped with us in other areas before,” says Ralph Uttaro, Wegmans’ senior vice president of real estate. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to bring incredible customer service, restaurant-quality prepared foods, and consistent low prices to Wake Forest in the future.”

In a statement, a Wegmans spokesperson said the company has signed a purchase agreement for the property and is seeking municipal approval to build an anchor store as part of a larger, mixed-use development.

A timeline for opening the 100,000 sq. ft. store will not be announced until all approvals are in place, a spokesperson said.

The announcement marks what will be the fourth Wegmans in the Triangle.

The first Wegmans in the state is planned for the Midtown East Shopping Center on Wake Forest Road in Raleigh and broke ground last year. That store is expected to open sometime in 2019.

Two other stores will be located in Cary and another will be built in Chapel Hill, the company said earlier this year.

Wegmans is a family-owned company, founded in 1916 and headquartered in Rochester, NY. They consistently rank in the top 5 for customer satisfaction. At most existing stores, they double coupons up to .99 and they accept up to 4 like coupons per day. They also have a Shoppers Club rewards program and digital coupons on their website.
