Weekend best bets: Dreamville, Tacos 'N Taps

There is so much to do and see in April this first weekend in April.

Festivals

April 1-30: NC Science Festival - With both virtual events and events across the state, this festival features more than 600 events, including an engineering competition and Gravity Games.

April 6-7: Dreamville Festival- Hip hop artist J. Cole, raised in Fayetteville, presents this festival at Dix Park. There are also a lot of events happening during the week that are free to attend.

April 3-7: NC Azalea Festival - This annual festival is held in Wilmington. There is a street fair, community events and performances.

April 4-7: Full Frame Documentary Film Festival - The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is an annual international event dedicated to the theatrical exhibition of nonfiction cinema. Each spring, Full Frame welcomes filmmakers and film lovers from around the world for a four-day, morning-to-midnight array of nearly 100 films, as well as discussions, panels, and Southern hospitality. This event is happening all weekend in Durham.

April 6: Tacos 'N Taps - This is an all you care to taste beer and tequila festival. The event will be held at Booth Amphitheatre in Cary. VIP admission (starting at $75) starts at noon and general admission (starting at $39) is at 1 p.m. There are also taco-only tickets (which are $25) designed for designated drivers. Children ages 12 and under are admitted for free.

Foodie fun

April 6: Dessert Wars - This is one of the largest dessert festivals in the country. It will be at the N.C. State Fairgrounds' Exposition Center from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets start at $50 and must be purchased in advance.

April 6: Raleigh Foodie Fare - This event at Raleigh Iron Works showcases Raleigh’s diverse food and art scene.

April 7: Bull City Food and Beer Experience - This year the event features 30 Triangle restaurants paired with breweries spread throughout all three DPAC floors featuring unlimited samplings.

On Stage

April 5: Bella White - See the Nashville-based singer/songwriter in Raleigh at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts.

April 6: Theresa Caputo - The beloved television personality and best-selling author delivers healing messages to audience members, comforting them with the revelation that their deceased loved ones are still with them -- just in a different way.

April 6: The Hometown Hero Comedy Showcase - Join Durty Bull Brewing Company's first Headliner Comedy Night featuring Quan Wiggins originally from Durham. The show is Saturday night and tickets start at $20..

April 6: Master Chorale Goes To The Movies - Return to Raleigh’s historic Rialto Theatre to enjoy the popcorn and the Master Chorale performing classic songs from the history of cinema covering the early MGM films, Henry Mancini, James Bond, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Disney and Star Wars.

April 6: A Tribute to Dean Martin - This show is highly entertaining and a “must see” with plenty of laughs and a world class live band. See it in Raleigh.

April 6: NC Symphony: Peter and the Wolf - Gather the kids to meet Peter and his friends- the duck (played by the oboe), the bird (flute), the cat (clarinet), and more, as they try to catch the wolf!

April 7: Tina and The Stones - A tribute to Tina Turner and The Rolling Stones in Raleigh.

April 7: Tina Friml - Tina Friml is a standup comedian who uses animated optimism to talk about living with cerebral palsy. See her at Goodnights Comedy Club.

April 7: SESSANTA: Primus, Puscifer, A Perfect Circle - See the bands at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek in Raleigh.

More events

April 6: Relay for Life of the Triangle - Come together to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This event will be held at Fenton in Cary.

April 7: Geek and Grub Market: Fantasy Edition - This festival will be held at Fred Fletcher Park.

April 7: Bull City Beer Mile - The Glass Jug Beer Lab and Bull City Running Co. present this 3rd annual run at Durham Central Park on Sunday afternoon. The race takes place on a 1/4-mile loop around central park. The race begins with the consumption of a 12-oz beer (RUN DRM lager brewed by The Glass Jug Beer Lab), followed by a 1/4 mile lap around the park. The second lap continues similarly; another 12-oz beer is consumed before commencing the running of the second lap. This process is repeated for the next two laps. Following the completion of the fourth beer and fourth running lap, you will cross the finish line.

Until May 13: Dinos Alive: An Immersive Experience - Travel back in time at the new Dinos Alive "immersive experience," in Raleigh's Pleasant Valley Promenade. This walk-through, family-friendly roar-fest will delight your amateur paleontologist. Tickets start at $21.
