Summer is here and we have some great suggestions on what to do this weekend!

Festivals and foodie fun

June 9: Two Durhams Beer Festival - Durham Breweries partner with Breweries in Durham, England to produce English style beers during this event at Durham Central Park from 5 to 9 p.m.

June 9: Friday Night on White - Head to Wake Forest for this monthly celebration on White Street from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be food trucks and live music.

June 10: Annual Apex Pride Festival - Enjoy this family-oriented, free event with over 100 artists, vendors and organizations. There will be a food truck rodeo, activities for children and teens, live music and more fun. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Hunter Street on the Apex Town Hall Campus.

June 10: Pride at Hi-Wire Brewing Durham - This party will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at Hi-Wire Brewing. It will feature a vendor pop-up market and an evening drag show from Chloe Cassidy from 7 to 9 p.m. It is $80 to attend the drag show.

June 10: Geek and Grub Market (Pride Edition) - This market will be held at Mordecai Historic Park on June 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be more than 40 geeky vendors, giant games, fun competitions and yummy food.

June 10: Nuv Yug India Fest - Discover Indian cultural arts via dance, music, traditional crafts, fashion, exhibition and cuisine at this event at the Jim Graham Building at the N.C. State Fairgrounds on June 10 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

June 10: Taste of Music Festival - Enjoy reggae, jazz, Latin, gospel and R&B at this family-friendly event at 237 Friendship Chapel Road in Wake Forest on June 10. The event will also include vendors, food, live performances, line dancing, DJ and activities for children. Tickets are $20 for general admission and children ages 12 and under are admitted for free.

June 10: Town of Cary's Pimento Cheese Festival - Food trucks will line Academy Street to serve their regular menus, along with new dishes featuring a southern delicacy: pimento cheese! Enjoy live music at Downtown Park, grab a drink from local breweries, and taste some of the best pimento cheese samples from local restaurants. You can even test your skills in the pimento cheese sculpting contest.

June 11: 2023 Summer Soirée at City Market Downtown Raleigh - This summer market will be from 1 to 5 p.m. in City Market. It will feature local vendors, food trucks, entertainment games and more.

June 11: Durham Central Park Food Truck Rodeo - From noon to 4 p.m., enjoy food from a variety of area trucks, plus drinks from local breweries.

On stage

June 9: Shane Gillis - Shane Gillis is a stand-up comic, actor, and writer from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. See him on stage at DPAC.

June 9: Summerfest: Fire & Rain: Songs of the 70s - The North Carolina Symphony and guest vocalists AJ Swearingen and Jayne Kelli perform classics from the 1970s by James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and more during this event on June 9 at Booth Amphitheatre.

June 10: Al Strong: Jazz Is My Religion - Join the North Carolina Museum of History to celebrate African American Music Appreciation Month with a special concert of jazz music performed by award-winning trumpet player, composer, recording artist, and educator Al Strong. Strong will be joined by a string quartet to amplify this performance.

June 10: 6th Annual Triangle Community Band Festival - Five Triangle area community bands will perform at Durham Central Park during this event from 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is free and there will be multiple food and drink trucks.

June 10: Summerfest: All Beethoven - Pack your picnic, lawn chairs, and blankets and enjoy great music under the stars from the North Carolina Symphony at Booth Amphitheatre at 8 p.m.

June 11: Ricardo Arjona - Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales, known as Ricardo Arjona, is a Guatemalan singer and songwriter. He is one of the most successful and best-selling Latin American artists of all time, with more than 80 million records sold. See him at PNC Arena on June 11.

Family Fun

June 10: Disney-Quest Film Series presents Sleepy Beauty - Enjoy a screening of this classic film. Wednesday showtimes are at 7 p.m. and Saturday showtimes are at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $8.84 plus taxes and fees.

June 9: Friday Family Flicks - Strange World - Enjoy a free family movie on the big screen at Garner Recreation Center on Friday. Concessions will be available for purchase. Rain date is the same time the following day. Don’t forget your lawn chairs or blankets.

June 10: Morrisville Bike Rodeo - The Morrisville Fire/Rescue Department will be hosting its bike safety rodeo for kids, from toddler age to 18, on June 10 from 10 a.m. to noon at Fire Station 1, 200 Town Hall Drive. Participants can get their bicycle inspected and can prove their safety knowledge and riding ability on the skills course. Bicycle helmets will be given out to those who need one, so long as supplies last.

June 10: Youth Fishing Day - Families with children 15 years of age and younger are invited to the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville to try their hand at fishing during this free fishing event to celebrate National Fishing & Boating Week.

June 10: Pondamania 2023 - Kids are taking over the Cape Fear Botanical Garden! Pondamania – A Children’s Art Explosion will celebrate five years of combining art with nature. Pondamania is a day filled with a wide variety of art activities including visual arts, dancing, garden exploration, animals, food, and fun.

June 10: Orchard Park Jazz Picnic - Join in for an afternoon of picnicking, dancing, and relaxing on the lawn at Durham's Orchard Park, with live music by your hosts, the Mint Julep Jazz Band.

June 10: Stay and Play at the Library - Caregivers and their children are invited to explore outdoor play-based centers featuring water, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and a DIY bookmark station at the Leesville Community Library.

June 10: Children’s Matinee: Rennie Harris Puremovement American Street Dance Theater - The acclaimed work Nuttin’ But A Word by Rennie Harris pushes the boundaries of street dance vocabulary and forces its audience to view street dance through a different lens. Tickets are $12.

June 10: PlayWell Workshop: LEGOS - Come and join our exciting “offline” video game experience where we give the controllers a rest and put your building skills to the test as we bring your favorite characters from the virtual world to the real world. This event is for kids ages 7-12 and costs $45. This is by Kidzu Museum in Chapel Hill.

June 10: ABC Fair: Inspired by the Scholastic book fairs from our childhood, the ABC Fair is an exhibition of the arts, books, and crafts we now create as adults. With activities for children and their parents, the whole family is invited to the Crown Complex.

June 11: Summer Concert Series in Raleigh: The 2023 Summer Concert Series is here! Concerts are on most Sundays now through September. They are free and tips for the bands are encouraged. Bring your own chair or blanket and enjoy the sounds at 6 p.m. at various Raleigh Parks. This Sunday, enjoy the Raleigh Jazz Orchestra at Pullen Park.

June 11: Marvel-ous Movie Series: Iron Man - Head to the North Regional Library in Raleigh for a free afternoon movie.

June 11: Movies at the Library - Duraleigh Library will be showing the film Strange World, an animated movie about a family of explorers who need to overcome their differences to succeed in their mission to a mysterious land full of surreal creatures. Join us afterward for a discussion about the movie as well as a fun explorer craft!

For the Dogs

June 10: Durty Dog Market - This market will feature dog-specific items from a slew of local vendors, all with the hopes of raising money and awareness for Hope Animal Rescue!!
