State senators voted 32-16 in favor of a bill to allow magistrates with a religious objection to some marriages to opt out of performing any marriages. The measure, which also applied to clerks in county register of deeds offices who process marriage licenses, is now headed to the House.

House and Senate lawmakers don't anticipate taking up any more business this week, but they are planning to be busy with economic development bills after the snow melts from a storm headed to Raleigh Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
