Wednesday wrap: No 11th-hour reprieve for NC jobless

Despite pleas from Democratic lawmakers, Gov. Pat McCrory says he has no plans to step in as unemployment benefits end for thousands of North Carolina residents who have been out of work for months.

Also Wednesday, the House gave tentative approval to legislation that would require health classes in public schools to teach that abortions are among the behaviors that could cause premature births later in life, as well as to a bill that would reorganize the state Commerce Department.

In the Senate, Sen. Thom Goolsby, R-New Hanover, joined district attorneys statewide to call on McCrory to end weekend home visits for convicted felons.
