The option is available for Pre-K through fifth grade students who want to learn remotely next semester.

The deadline for middle and high school students to enroll has already closed.

With coronavirus cases rising in the state and across the country, Wake County leaders are currently determining what the next semester should look like. Still, they expect all students to return to class in some form after the holidays.

In November, the Wake County Board of Education approved the following plan for the spring semester:

  • Pre-kindergarten to fifth grade will remain in full-time in-person instruction
  • Middle schools will stay in three-week rotations with one week in the classroom and two weeks in remote learning
  • High schools will move from remote learning to three-week rotations

The district is now working with health experts from the ABC Science Collaborative, which offers guidance on how to safely operate during the pandemic.

District leaders say being transparent with families and making a road map for contact tracing will help keep the virus out of schools.
