Saturday Looks to Be a Wash-Out

The Triangle is likely to see some significant rainfall Saturday as a cold front moves slowly across the state.

The front will make most of Saturday a wash-out, with a threat of severe weather to boot, said WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel. The storms are expected to roll in during the afternoon and evening hours.

Some areas could see up to 2 inches of rain, which will help with the drought in the area.

“From a rainfall standpoint, this is just what the doctor ordered,” Fishel said.

Rainfall by Friday night had ranged from two hundreths of an inch in Fayetteville to 0.65 inches in Oxford. Raleigh recorded just shy of a quarter-inch, and Chapel Hill had a bit more than that.

Saturday will begin windy and warm, with temperatures dropping to around 50 in the evening.

The rain doesn’t stop there. Fishel said some light rain is possible Sunday morning. The rest of that day is expected to be cool and cloudy, however.
