The remnants of Saturday showers tapered off though the Triangle, leaving saturated lawns and cloudy skies by sundown.

Sunday will dawn cooler and overcast, with the possibility for morning fog, said WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze.

After a dip into the high 40s, the forecast only calls for a high of 71 Sunday, a mark right on the seasonal average.

Sunday's clouds will break by afternoon but not clear completely, but the bulk of the day should be pleasant and rain-free,  Maze said.

"We are watching the next front that is poised to move into the area Sunday night, and it could bring a few showers. This front will stall across the western part of the state and may set up a zone of warm weather west of the front and milder weather to the east," she said.

It will warm up again for the work week, but clouds and the chance for spotty showers remain in the forecast through Friday.
