Thunderstorms Move Through Area; Minor Damage Reported

Scattered storms moving across central North Carolina have already made their mark, as damage is reported in a few area counties.

Trees are reported down in Wayne, Johnston, Harnett and Wilson counties, with Progress Energy reporting over 4,000 customers without power in the Goldsboro area.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for several area counties throughout Wednesday afternoon. (

According to the National Weather Service, an area of showers and strong thunderstorms is expected to move across the eastern part of the Triangle area throughout the afternoon hours, with wind gusts of over 40 mph, small hail and lightning.
