See the 2009 Geminid meteor shower

Tonight (Sunday evening, Dec. 13, to Monday morning, Dec. 14) is the peak of the Geminid meteor shower—the annual display of meteors that appear to radiate from the constellation Gemini.

According to Clear Sky Chart predictions, the skies over much of North Carolina will be clear this evening. Viewing the Geminids will be cold, but still worthwhile.

And please join Morehead Planetarium at Jordan Lake's Ebenezer Church Recreation Area for our next skywatching session on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. (weather permitting). Although the Geminid "shooting stars" will have petered out, we'll view many real stars, as well as the planet Jupiter. Come early in the session to glimpse elusive Mercury.
