Happy New Year!

For all of us in the WRAL Weather Center, I'd like to wish you and yours a very happy and prosperous 2009! I'd also like to invite you to spend some time throughout the year looking up and enjoying the show that is our ever-changing sky. Just in the last few weeks, I've seen a couple instances of sun dogs and enjoyed a brief meteor shower. Matter of fact, 2009 has been declared the International Year of Astronomy. So, there's not been a better time to start looking up!

To get you started, check out this awesome time-lapse movie of some of the wonders going on just above your head, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you've been inspired a bit, you can get a daily dose of out-of-this-world pictures by bookmarking the Astronomy Picture of the Day Web site.
