The flock of 15 Chilean flamingos is making a move – from the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro to the Greenville Zoo in South Carolina in late September.

Last year, the NC Zoo closed its aviary because it was out of date. This fall, the NC Zoo will demolish that old building, forcing the move the the flamingos from their nearby habitat.

The 15 flamingos coming from North Carolina will join 19 others at the Greenville Zoo where they will enjoy a large, spring-fed natural lagoon for bathing, feeding and just hanging out.

The North Carolina Zoo will welcome guests to bid the flamingos farewell before they head to South Carolina. On Aug. 26, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., flamingo keepers will host a special “Farewell Flamingos,” event at the habitat. We encourage guests to wear something pink to honor these iconic pink birds.
