The Washington Area Historic Foundation is presenting their biennial Spring Homes & Gardens Tour on April 27th.

Tour coordinator Casey Stone says this is one of the most exciting and diverse homes and gardens tours Washington has ever had.

“The tour will include houses and gardens from old to new, including the historic Fowle House at 412 West Main Street. The Fowle House was built in 1816, and was used as a hospital during the Civil War. Later it was used as a hotel during the 1870’s.”

The tour will include homes with architectural styles that include Neoclassical Revival, Federal, and Victorian.

One of the newer constructed homes on the tour is a beautiful addition at Moss Landing on the river. Not a historic home, but it resides in the historic district.

There are seven homes and two gardens on the tour. Stone says there are some really unique locations on the tour this year. “One of the gardens on the tour is a certified Butterfly Garden,” Stone says. “It is also part of the ‘Butterfly Highway,’ which is a statewide conservation restoration initiative that aims to restore native pollinator habitats to areas impacted by urbanization, land use change and agriculture across North Carolina.”

Tickets are available for purchase at the Visitors Center (252-946-9168) and the Harbor District Market (252-947-1487).
