Warrants: Scotty McCreery told during robbery to count to 100

Armed men accused of robbing Scotty McCreery at an apartment last month near North Carolina State University forced the country singer and his friends into a closet and told them to count to 100, according to a search warrant made public Monday.

McCreery, 20, was visiting 2130 Wolftech Lane early in the morning of May 5 when, according to arrest warrants, Mikkail Jamal Shaw and two other men allegedly forced their way inside and stole wallets, cellphones, money and a laptop from the singer and three of his friends before leaving on foot.

The search warrants, issued May 8 for Shaw's iPhone and 2002 Mercedes Benz, say the men knocked on the door and then pushed their way in, brandishing two pistols and an AK-47.

Forensic evidence at the apartment identified Shaw as one of the robbers, according to the search warrant, and Shaw – who was staying with his grandfather less than four blocks from the apartment – surrendered to police that night.

Shaw is charged with four counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police are still searching for others in the case.

McCreery, who is from Garner, was an N.C. State sophomore during the spring 2014 semester. He became famous during the 10th season of “American Idol,” which he won in 2011.

Last month, USA Today reported McCreery saying that one of his friends opened the apartment door, thinking it was a neighbor, and that one of the robbers held a pistol to McCreery's head.
