Warrants detail damage inside home of Apex shooting suspect

Search warrants offer additional detail about what police found last week when they reported to a disturbance that turned deadly in an Apex neighborhood.

Police arrived at the South Walk Townhomes on the afternoon of Jan. 15, 2024, to find two women had been shot. They were laying in the yard of a home on Chipping Drive. Gabrielle Raymond, 37, and Nancy Taylor, 69, died within hours. Harry Hardman, 37, who lived across the street from where the women were found, was charged with their murders.

Warrants released on Monday detail how police identified Hardman as a suspect and what they found in his home.

The first people to call 911 from South Walk Townhomes reported a man swinging a pool cue and screaming. While officers were en route, they got a report that shots had been fired.

When they arrived, according to the warrants, officers saw Hardman standing in a driveway on Brussels Drive holding a rifle. The warrants say the man then ran inside, and officers heard a single gun shot. Police surrounded the home, and Hardman came out the back door, where he surrendered to police.

"When they took him into custody, they saw (a) pool cue and black rifle laying in the grass where he was standing. Officers noticed that the male had blood on one of his wrists and his pants," the warrant says.

A search of the Brussels Drive home "the inside of the house was destroyed," according to the warrant. Officers found a dog – shot dead – upstairs in the home. They found furniture overturned, bullet holes in walls and broken glass.

The warrants say that police found the two victims in the yard of a home where the door was open.

"Officers noticed the front door of 1414 Chipping Dr. was slightly open and saw bullet holes in the front of the house," the warrants say.
