There's nothing quite like a buzzer-beater in the basketball state playoffs. Just ask Wakefield and Panther Creek.

Both teams had played many close games throughout the season when the two met at Wakefield in the third round of the 4A state playoffs.

Panther Creek built a 20-17 lead through one quarter, then extended it to a 39-35 lead at halftime.

Wakefield came back in the second half though, erasing the four-point deficit in the third quarter and taking a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.

With Wakefield leading 73-71 with less than 10 seconds left, University of Virginia recruit Justin McKoy drove the basket and tied the game with 5.6 seconds left.

That proved to be too much though.

After a timeout, Wakefield inbounded the ball and Brenon Rogers hit a deep 3-point basket at the buzzer to lift Wakefield to a 76-73 win over Panther Creek.

The Wolverines went on to lose in the fourth round of the playoffs to eventual state champion South Central.
