Wake Tech holds fire and rescue training exercise

More than 35 fire and rescue workers took part in a hands-on training class Saturday through Wake Technical Community College.

The workers responded to different crash scenarios, including one where a car ends up wrapped around a tree. Instructors said the benefits are two-fold.

“Obviously in this particular circumstance, with the rescuers understanding their equipment, they can use it efficiently and within its working load limits. Simply, they can provide a safer working environment for themselves and equally reduce extrication time,” instructor Billy Leach said.

Crews from across the region participated in the class, which held the hands-on portion at 990 Vandora Springs Road in Garner.

It was the first time the training was held at the Wake County campus.
